The Winter-Cohen Family Brueggeman Fellows Program

This is a research fellowship overseen by the Brueggeman Center, which offers up to 8 students each year the chance to combine a year of intensive independent study with an international immersion experience.

The Brueggeman Fellowship is a highly competitive program that draws from graduate and undergraduate students from all four colleges and a wide range of disciplines. Since 2004, Brueggeman Center has sent more than 120 students to more than 60 different countries. For a list of past fellows, click here.

In addition to guidance during the course of their research, each fellow is awarded a stipend of $3,500 for the purpose of planning an overseas experience that connects with their research project.

Personal Message

Thank you for your support of the Winter-Cohen Fellows Program. Resoundingly, the alumni of the Brueggeman Fellows program describe their research fellowship as one of the most transformational experiences of their time at Xavier.

Thank you for helping to provide this valuable opportunity to future students.

Why are donations necessary?

Donations are necessary so that we can continue to fund 8 fellows each year. In 2023, we raised the amount of the fellows' stipend for the first time in nearly twenty years in order to account for inflation. At the current rate of the stipend, however, the fellowship program will not be able to support 8 fellows per year.
