Traditional commuters handle many obligations and financial stressors at once, yet continue to participate in the Xavier community as exceptional student leaders. Through a commuter scholarship, we can alleviate some of the stressors this student population faces, so they can continue to invest in the Xavier community.
Your donation will go to creating the Commuter Scholarship Fund. We hope to evaluate and increase the impact of the award year to year.
Traditional commter students live in and around the tri-state region of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Indiana. They consist of a diverse and intersectional group of students. Many commuters are either students of color, first generation college students, or both. Most commuters maintain at least 1 form of employment while they balance their academic and home life. This can create strain on their wellness and social aspect at Xavier. According to first-year commuter surveys, a majority commute to Xavier for financial reasons. As college students living at home and working to provide additional income, they handle multiple family and work obligations at once. Despite these varied commitments, many continue to make notable contributions to Xavier through their service, leadership, and involvement both on and off-campus. Every year, student leaders who have had made outstanding contributions to the commuter population are honored on All-Honors Day through a commuter award. For this year, a $200 commuter scholarship will be attached to this award. This scholarship award will relieve some financial stressors being experienced. Additional donations are needed to continue this scholarship for future commuter students. We hope to evaluate the impact of the award on a year to year basis. Join us in raising funds for this exceptional student population. All for one, one for all!
